Meet our educators

Jennifer – Educational Leader
“We believe preschool is an important time in a child’s life and strive to make it the most enjoyable and rewarding educational experience for them.”
Jennifer is an Early Childhood Teacher who has worked with Hunter Mobile Preschool since 2017. With more than 30 years experience working as an Early Childhood Educator, Jennifer works primarily from our Lochinvar location on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. In her spare time, Jennifer values spending time in nature while camping and enjoys running. Fun fact, during one of Jennifer’s many marathon running events, she got to run over the Sydney Harbour Bridge!

Kristie
“I chose this career to help children become the best versions of themselves and understand that they matter.”
Kristie began work at Hunter Mobile Preschool in 2020 and works as the Venue Supervisor at Vacy and Gresford. Qualified with a Diploma in Children’s Services, Kristie says one of the best things about her job is seeing the growth of each and every child. “I love that they teach me something new every day,” Kristie explains.
Hunter Mobile Preschool’s small size appeals to Kristie because of the close relationships she’s able to form with each child. “I love that it’s small. We get to make such close relationships with each child and help them to feel comfortable in our settings much quicker.”
Kristie says Vacy’s permanent playground is a huge hit with the kids, whilst Gresford’s “biggest seller” is its “mud pit” where everything from mud kitchens to “fishing” and getting the gum boots dirty attracts smiles from all the kids.
A lover of Mexican food and going to the gym, Kristie also loves spending her free time with her two dogs, Luna and Keith!

Benjamin
“The mobile nature of the service really makes for a different day every day at preschool. With everything being packed up and set back out every couple of days, it really helps to keep things fresh for both the children and educators.”
Ben has a Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care and has worked with Hunter Mobile Preschool for close to three years and says one of his best memories from the past year is learning to do cartwheels alongside the children! Whilst excursions are always a fun day out, incursions are a regular highlight for Ben and the children. These include everything from science shows, story-telling, sing-alongs and reading with the local librarian and public school educators, and healthy eating and oral hygiene classes, all presented to the children from the comfort of their familiar preschool setting.
Ben says the children all respond well to the consistency of the educators and routine, which involves outdoor play, morning tea, more outdoor play with additional resources, music games, lunch, building with blocks, lego and train sets, afternoon tea and then working on fine motor skills by drawing, cutting and writing whilst incorporating written language into the play.
Ben loves watching all kinds of sports including NRL, F1, cricket, horse racing and he loves to swim (just not in winter!). He enjoys going to concerts and festivals to listen to music that “doesn’t come up often at preschool” and, whilst his favourite food is steak or “a good cheesy garlic potato bake”, Ben said preparing for, and then cooking burgers with the children for “burger day” is a highlight!

Paula
“QUOTE.”

Maddy
“I love being able to help children grow and learn and being able to watch them achieve new goals.”
Madalyn (‘Maddy’) has a Diploma in Early Childhood and has worked with Hunter Mobile Preschool for more than three years. Maddy says being able to provide care and education to real areas that don’t otherwise have access to a preschool is what she loves most about her job. “The children’s excitement to come each day is very rewarding.”
Taking the kids to Gresford Show each year is a highlight for Maddy, who describes Vacy and Gresford as both small farming towns with a very nice community. With Vacy offering a large hall and playground, small fort, swing and sandpit, Gresford also offers a large hall with playground outside, fort, sandpit and always popular mud pit! Indoor play, group activities, breaks and rests and complemented nicely with lots of outdoor activity and regular visits to Vacy Public School. Maddy says by visiting the school to use play equipment, the library and the canteen allows for the children to familiarise themselves with the environment and teachers, and helps support school transition for the children.

Meet our management team

Liz – Administrative Manager, Hunter Mobile Preschool
“What I love most about my job is the people I work with. It’s also very rewarding for a not-for-profit organisation, especially being able to assist the organistion to thrive and grow.”
All-round superstar and the first person to pick up the phone smiling to answer all your enquiries when you call Hunter Mobile Preschool’s head office is our Administrative Manager, Liz.
Despite formerly being an excellent Highland Dancer and her mum reminding Liz that, as a child, she wanted to become “a doctor and a garbage man”, Liz has a Diploma in Accounting and has worked for Hunter Mobile Preschool since 2002 (fast approaching spending a quarter of a century with us)!
Liz has been instrumental in working with the past and current committees in securing a new premises for the service office and base at Rutherford, which will allow the service to grow with additional days and potentially even new locations (watch this space)!
Liz says the highlight of working with Preschool is the educators. “The families may not see it, but back at the base, they go above and beyond to prepare the best experiences for the kids.”
In her spare time, Liz likes to read, go to the beach and her favourite thing to do is spend time with her daughter’s little boy, Oli! Competing for Oli’s attention is also her much loves cat, a 17-year-old rescue Bengal called “Cleo” (although her official name is Wildcat Makeetacleo) who found her forever home with Liz fives years ago.

Sarah – Coordinator, Hunter Mobile Preschool
“What I love most about my job is working with such a dedicated team to provide a great service in the small communities in which we operate.”
For more than 30 years, generations of children, and their parents, have had the absolute honour of benefitting from Sarah’s dedication, passion and commitment to Hunter Mobile Preschool both as an educator and behind the scenes from our Head Office as Coordinator.
With an Advanced Diploma Children’s Services, Sarah started working with us in 1992 and says she has always felt most confident working with young children. Sarah believes the uniqueness of the service and its passionate educators are why kids love coming to preschool. Operating across seven different communities, Sarah says educators have to be creative and think on their feet at times, and that there’s something special about working for a not-for-profit community-based service.
“Everything we do, and every dollar we spend, is for the children, families and communities within which we operate. Hunter Mobile Preschool has had some long serving employees because of the type of service we are.”
In her spare time Sarah loves to sew, bake and read and is kept busy looking after her 5-year-old Kelpie, Jack, who is “obsessed with fetch”.
Get to know Jennifer
| Jennifer, what do you love most about your job? | To have a positive impact on the lives of children and families is something I find most rewarding about my job. Every day is different. I greet the children every morning excited for what great ideas, questions and interests they will bring. I get to laugh, be creative, work collaboratively with others, and continue to gain knowledge and learn new skills. |
| Why did you choose this career? | In 1992 when I enrolled in my first early childhood education course it was the passion and dedication of the people in this profession that I admired the most. I wanted a career that would always provide a challenge. |
| What’s something about Hunter Mobile Preschool that’s different about other preschools or early education centres you have previously worked? | Working in a mobile preschool, without a purpose built setting requires us to be resourceful, adaptable and always ready to expect the unexpected, such as when a child arrives in the morning with their brahman calf for ‘Show & Tell,’ (thankfully our outdoor environment can accommodate this). We work in small teams (a minimum of two educators at each venue) so it’s important we work well together. Our travel time to the venue and back is a great chance to reflect on our day or ways we can enhance each child’s experience at preschool. |
| What’s one of your best memories working at Hunter Mobile Preschool and why? | Probably when I first started, seeing the difference between a privately-owned long daycare centre, to a small community-based preschool. The smaller group size and strong sense of community spirit, and the children’s excitement to be at preschool was beautiful to see. |
| Can you give us an example of why kids love Hunter Mobile Preschool so much ? | Many children feel more comfortable in a smaller preschool environment. With the respect we show for each child and the connections we build, the children are comfortable to be themselves. They develop a strong sense of agency and they know their interests will be followed. |
